La Mission, Starring Benjamin Bratt, Now Playing in LA and NY Theaters, Opens Tomorrow in SF

La Mission, a gripping drama starring Benjamin Bratt as a reformed ex-con who kicks out his son after learning he is gay, opened last week in select theaters throughout Los Angeles and New York and will expand to San Francisco tomorrow. Bratt is back in his 2nd appearance at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles this Saturday. In the film, written and directed by Bratt's brother, Peter, Bratt plays Che, a man who discovers his son’s secret life and thinks it threatens his macho reputation. After flying into a violent rage and throwing his son, Jesse, out of his home, Che is forced to step back and reevaluate his life with the help of his attractive and headstrong neighbor, Lena. Jesse is a strong character who challenges his father’s assumptions about his sexual orientation. With positive LGBT images becoming more prevalent in society with every passing year, it is also important that those images represent the ethnic and cultural diversity of the LGBT community. Peter Bratt's daring film reflects the struggle for acceptance still faced by many gay Latino men. GLAAD applauds the Bratt brothers for helping to spread awareness and understanding. La Mission premiered last year at the Sundance Film Festival, where GLAAD hosted a panel discussion with the film's cast and crew. Video of the panel can be viewed below.
